LOVE

Love, love love.  It was everywhere we turned in June, with three weddings and a fourth in December, that I am hosting a bridal shower with my nieces, in early August.  What a wonderful excuse to escape into the “creative world” and design fun, meaningful art for others.  Our lives sometimes get very busy with things that are important, but not fulfilling.  Many times we are around people that don’t bring out the best in us and if we were honest, we don’t bring out the best in them in these situations.  When I find my mental self in these destructive environments, I need to either redirect myself into an art project (great therapy) OR work the mental gymnastics to focus on the blessings in my life.  It is not healthy for us to spend too much time thinking negatively and we become the individuals that we have a hard time being around.  There is so much in all our lives to be thankful for.  I have a canvas in my living room that says “we tend to seek happiness when happiness is actually a choice”.  A nice reminder for all of us, that being happy is within OUR control, not others.  Or better yet, if we approach our difficult situations with a loving attitude, as the quote above states, it may just brighten someones day and ours as well.

Sorry again for my absence with posting blogs.  You can’t keep me away too long though, even with the lure of sunshine in Michigan!  I needed to stay focused to complete the gifts on time for the weddings and get busy with all the planning for the shower coming up.  I promised to post a picture of the shower invitations that our little group spent an afternoon assembling.  Due to date conflicts we decided to have a second shower which required a second shower card.  Not one, but two fun projects!  Never a complaint when you have the opportunity to create something special for someone! ;-)

I made each new couple a special glass plate.  It is always fun to play with glass and make that special gift.  I do love that I could make these gifts for them.  It is heartwarming to give a unique gift that you made just for them.  Something you hope they will treasure and remember you with kind thoughts.  ;-)

I may have mentioned that I worked on the wedding cake topper for Leighla's wedding.  She wanted to use her mom's wedding cake topper for that sentimental connection, but have it updated for her cake.  A little scary, since she let me do whatever I liked with only 2 cake pictures (which did not have toppers) as reference.  So here is the before and after for you to see how these turned out.

No rest for the weary.  With the weddings behind me now, I have the bridal shower, for my future niece, coming up in less than 2 weeks.  The plan, of course, is to have handmade gifts and party favors.  I have the 6 prize gifts complete and we will be working on the party favors and decorations this week and next.  To tease you a bit more, I had a fabulous idea for her bridal shower gift, but can’t tell you much more, as I want it to be a secret until she sees it.  ;-)  I need to keep focused for a few more weeks to finish up the details and be ready to host guests in my home.  Oh yea, the house will need to be ready as well…. I definitely will add RELAXING to my priority list come mid-August so I can enjoy our beautiful Michigan sunshine before we warp into gloomy winter.

I do have some great news!  As I started this blog to give you insight into my journey into the world of art, I wanted to let you know that I sold an item in Holland at CreativeCorner!  YEA!!!  With one sale I have not broken even on this retail decision but it is a baby step in the right direction.  They also featured my glass on their Facebook posting.  This was very nice and hopefully will help bring awareness to the art bound shopper.  In the spirit of our topic on love, I LOVE that someone actually purchased a piece of art that I made.  I am picturing the tulips in their sunny kitchen window.  Such a warm and happy feeling.

Go forward into the rest of your week with love in your hearts and maybe some art to share with a special person.  ;-)
